Sigur Rós

Yesterday I walked to the Enmore theatre in the rain to eagerly purchase my $90 Sigur Rós ticket.

Although quite expensive, I am completely smitten with the band ( that is Jón Thor Birgisson (vocals, guitar), Georg Holm (bass), Kjartan Sveinsson (keyboards/piano), Orri Páll Dýrason (drums)

I will go to extremely draining lengths to see them live...
(I plan to travel down and break into Splendour in the Grass the next day to see them again)

There is something so surreal and escapist to their sound. It possibly has something to do with being from Iceland.. after spending the afternoon listening to icelandic artists such as Bjork, Múm and Sigur Ros I have developed some intensely beautiful and alien visions of what Iceland would be like.

I desperately want to visit this mysterious land and simultaneously am scared of ruining the entrancing quality it occupies in my imagination.

Sigur Ros are definitely one of my top artists and they are set to release their new album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly) on June 23rd 2008

A pre-sale for the album will begin on www.sigurros.com on June 2nd and anyone who pre-orders will then be able to access a stream of the full album from June 9th.
(for desperate fans like me)

When I found out about Sigur Ros's new album i think my heart skipped a beat (or something equally corny) and I instantly downloaded their single Gobbledigook (available for free download on their website).

I'm not sure how I feel about it. It has this tribal-ish/guitar-ish/pounding/animal-collective-esque tone to it which just doesn't cater to my selfish emotional expectations of the band.

I've always listened to their incredibly shattering songs and really liked the whole "life can be so sad but beautiful and worth appreciating" type of sound

Either way, I'm really anxious to hear the rest of the album

Here are my favourite Sigur Ros tracks which have kept me company many-a-rainy & lonely nights

Sigur Rós- Sæglópur (Zshare)
