You Go Sexual City

Alice @ Oxford Art Factory Sydney

If you know me you know just how big of a Crystal Castles fan I am. I just adore them. I've been bouncing around to air war and melting to their chaotically beautiful productions since before you could crawl..
I was practically counting down the seconds to their "new" album that has maybe 3 tracks that aren't 50 years old (in blog years)
I'm going to put two up.
Naturally, they are both very crystalcastleish and magnificent although I am extremely disappointed with their track Vanished. Everybody should know it is a remix! (and doesn't stray far from the orignal at all).
It's basically just Van She's 'Sex City' with some added glitches.
Its a great listen and I may like it even more than an original but come on... you gotta give Van She some credit you guys.

Van She is creditted in the CD. It's not a remix. It's a mash-up of an unreleased Crystal Castles song with Alice's vocals muted (called "Not In Love"), and the Van She vocals thrown on top. I've heard both versions and they are both great.

The CC version is very different and more catchy than the Van She version.

Thank you for the feedback!
I completely agree with you. The CC version is definitely catchy (perhaps even better than the original which I said in the article) and CC have definitely changed some elements of the song

Perhaps Van She are creditted on the CD but sadly this online commuinity which we are part of doesn't really seem to endorse buying music. Hypem is treated as a free cd store (but its ok because music blogs contain little disclaimers about buying music which just almost seem comical to me)

Out target audience...the non-cd-buying hypem loving community... don't seem to know that the track isn't an original.

Many bloggers and blog-readers I have talked to have been unaware of Vanished being an appropriation of Sex City.

I'm glad all the genuine music lovers who actually go out and buy the cd will know this...wouldn't it be great if more people went out and got the cd?

Thanks for reading :)

i had no idea
i agree it really does sound like the vanshe version and has so much more similarity with the original vanshe version than most remixes of songs

Crystal Castles took the Van She melody and gave it a MUCH better backing track.

completely agree with you elle estrange. it sounds exactly like the van she track. a mashup and a remix are the same thing. whoever think they are different is an idiot.

a mash up & a remix are not the same. a mash up is taking two pre existing tracks and combining them into one track often with very little manipulation of the original tracks. a remix on the other hand is taking ONE pre existing track and arranging it both structurally and sonically two create a new version.

therefore the CC track is in-fact a mash up of two pre excising tracks.
