Having a nice chat with Manzur from Futurecop was just intensely stimulating. Exploding with talent, the duo are coming down to join the Trashbags posse in early June.

I really like the name Futurecop!, how did that come about?
A lot of people think its all about the whole 80s cyborg thing e.g robocop, which is great but it was actually to do with just looking into the future, time travel stuff – im quite into the whole looking into the future from an 80s movie point of view. But i'd rather people think i came up with the name coz of 80s cyborg movies – it makes more sense– so lets stick to that! Futurecop! Isn't me or a person its just a project encapsulating how I think certain people looked at life and future in the 80s.

What do you think of the internet as a way of disseminating music? Has myspace played a big role in promotion?
When i first started music i didn't really think of it as a kind of 'career' move i just wanted to put loads of pictures on myspace and music that reflected my look on life and have fun. I don't do music to impress anyone, or to be different i do it coz theres a sound i always wanted to create which is that 80s sci-fi / movie / tv show / cartoon synth sound, you know the one that you remember when you were a kid (basically i wanted to impress myself) and if other people like it then that's even better – i really never thought so many people would be the same as me and be really into my vibe. So myspace does reach a lot of people even if your not planning to! – its powerful coz artists can be innovative and create their own brand and people can relate. For me electronic music is a lot about brand, art, imagery etc not just music so it is very important to me.

What do you think of countless music blogs making your tracks so easily available?
Its wiked! It's the only way my music got heard to everyone. Blogs are very powerful. For me its all about getting my music heard and letting them feel what im feeling. Im only doing this to express myself and have fun. If one day i stop having fun doing this, then im just going to quit.
Im also really into branding and building up hype – its exciting. Plus ive got 6 more songs on my laptop no one has heard yet which are 10 times better than the ones on my myspace – cant wait to release those on blogs too after ive finished them!

You have a really impressive list of influences. How important do you think it is for an artist to draw from different genres?

It's the most important thing for me. – you got to appreciate 'good' music whether its metal, thrash, hip hop or rock ballads etc etc. Even new music has to be good or what is the point. you give me a genre i bet i love something in one of them.
With the futurecop! project im concentrating on a specific type of 80s music / soundtrack that's made you feel good when you a were a kid (nostalgic feeling) i.e stan bush soundtrack in the 80s transformers movie, maybe il do a project that's concentrating on thrash next time – you never know . Also my music as most will know is a lot to do with other forms of 80s pop culture for e.g 80s cartoons, tv shows, new york city in the eighties and movies from brat pack to sci-fi flicks, so movies are very important too with futurecop!.

You guys are coming to Australia soon! Is this going to be your first time? What are you expecting from the Australian scene?

This will be my first time in Australia but pete has been before (when he went around the world 2 years ago) – he loved Australia – and told me how everyone there appreciates 'future disco' music. I think its going to be awesome – i get great feedback from Australia and i know how much everyone loves pop music. I cannot wait to meet fans there too – its going to be ace!

Is there anything in particular you want to do during your time here?

Party, party, party, fun, fun, fun!!!!

Do you find it hard to work when on tour?

No way since all i need to make music is a mac, that's it! its really easy to make music now. Its great on a plane, because i can make music without my phone going off! My actual second brain is my laptop – i love it to bits!

We are really excited about showing you guys a good time when you come down here! Do you still enjoy the occasional big night out?

Every nights a big night – im quite an active person – so i can't sit still in one place for too long so im always trying to either work hard or play hard! Anyway you'll see how hardcore we are when we get to Australia!!!

Ahhh we all know the Futurecop tracks which have been rightfully over-blogged inside out... here's a remix that I quite fancy. Mmmmm..
